Some time in the early 80’s, I started doing a few background murals for the U.S. Forest Service. When I retired in 89’ I continued doing murals for several exhibit design and fabrication companies.
They are called back ground murals because they are painted on the wall surface behind the exhibit or diorama the scene is intended to enhance. They continue the natural landscape surrounding the exhibit extending the scene from the diorama right into the distance, lending coherence and reality to the exhibit itself.
These murals usually include much of the flora and fauna appropriate to the ecosystem being exhibited and explained. These paintings usually draw you in and capture your imagination, helping to transport you into the story that is being told.
